Hello, my name is Famatta Gibson, and I work in the mental health field with a deep passion for supporting individuals on their journey toward emotional well-being and personal growth. My background is in social work, and I focus on creating safe, compassionate, and client-centered spaces where people feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether working through anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, I strive to provide evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s unique needs. I’m committed to promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and helping others thrive through holistic and supportive approaches.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free space where the focus is on getting to know each other and beginning to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. We’ll start by discussing what brought you—or your child—into therapy, exploring your goals, concerns, and any questions you may have about the process. For children, I may use play-based activities to help them feel comfortable and begin expressing themselves in developmentally appropriate ways. For teens and adults, the session typically involves open conversation, where I listen carefully and begin to understand your story, strengths, and needs. We’ll also go over important information about confidentiality, boundaries, and how therapy works, so you feel informed and empowered from the beginning. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—this is a gentle starting point, and my goal is for you to feel safe, respected, and supported as we begin this journey together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I believe my greatest strengths lie in my ability to create a calm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where clients feel truly seen and heard. I bring patience, compassion, and deep listening to every session, allowing clients of all ages to move at their own pace and feel safe in their vulnerability. I am especially skilled at building rapport with children, teens, and adults alike—meeting each person where they are developmentally and emotionally. My holistic and person-centered approach allows me to tailor support to the unique needs of every client, integrating evidence-based practices with mindfulness, emotional regulation techniques, and trauma-informed care. Clients often share that they appreciate my warm demeanor, consistent presence, and ability to gently guide them through difficult emotions while helping them build insight, resilience, and practical coping tools. I see my role not just as a therapist, but as a trusted ally in each client’s healing and thrive journey.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to serve clients ranging from age 6 through adulthood who are seeking support for emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. This includes children struggling with emotional regulation, anxiety, behavioral issues, or trauma; adolescents navigating identity, peer pressure, self-esteem, or school-related stress; and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, or unresolved past experiences. I work well with individuals who may have difficulty expressing their emotions and need a safe, compassionate space to be seen, heard, and supported. My approach is developmentally appropriate and tailored to each stage of life—whether through play-based techniques with children, supportive dialogue with teens, or insight-oriented and solution-focused strategies with adults. I am especially attuned to clients who benefit from a calm, patient, and holistic approach—those who may not thrive in fast-paced or overly clinical settings, but instead seek connection, understanding, and personalized care to help them grow and heal at their own pace.

My treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR is typically one part of a broader, integrative treatment plan. I begin with a thorough assessment and preparation phase to ensure the client feels safe, stable, and ready to do trauma work. This includes teaching grounding and resourcing techniques, as well as building a strong therapeutic alliance. Once we begin EMDR processing, I guide the client through structured phases using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) or a light bar use in telehealth to help the brain reprocess disturbing memories. The goal is to reduce the emotional charge and negative beliefs associated with the memory and replace them with more adaptive, empowering beliefs.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I follow the PRACTICE components of the model, guiding clients through each phase while remaining flexible and responsive to their developmental stage and unique needs. The treatment includes psychoeducation about trauma, skill-building around emotional regulation and relaxation, gradual exposure to trauma narratives, and cognitive restructuring of negative or unhelpful thoughts. In sessions, I create a safe and supportive environment that empowers clients to process their experiences at their own pace. When working with youth, I also engage caregivers as essential partners in treatment, helping them learn supportive parenting strategies and ways to reinforce the child’s healing outside of sessions.

Christian Counseling

I respect and honor each client’s unique faith background, and I always let them lead the way in how much or how little they wish to incorporate spirituality into their sessions. For clients who desire it, Christian Counseling can include prayer, Scripture, faith-based cognitive reframing, spiritual formation, and exploring how their relationship with God impacts their healing and decision-making. I also help clients work through spiritual struggles—such as wrestling with forgiveness, guilt, purpose, or feeling distant from God—in a compassionate, nonjudgmental space. When appropriate, I draw from Christian teachings to help reinforce clients’ sense of identity, hope, and resilience. Ultimately, Christian Counseling allows me to walk alongside clients as they integrate their faith into their emotional healing and personal growth. It’s a deeply meaningful and transformative part of my work for clients who seek healing that includes both psychological insight and spiritual depth.

Grief Therapy

I approach grief therapy with deep compassion, patience, and flexibility, knowing that grief is not linear and looks different for every person. I create a safe, supportive space for clients to express and process the full range of emotions they may be experiencing—whether it’s sadness, anger, numbness, guilt, or even relief. My work often involves helping clients make meaning of their loss, stay connected to the memory of their loved one in healthy ways, and gradually rebuild their sense of identity and purpose. For those experiencing complicated or prolonged grief, I integrate cognitive-behavioral strategies, narrative therapy, and mindfulness to support healing and emotional regulation. When appropriate, I may incorporate rituals, legacy-building, or spiritual reflections to help honor the grief process, especially for clients whose loss intersects with their faith or cultural identity. My goal is not to “move clients on” from their grief, but to help them move forward with it—carrying it in a way that allows for growth, connection, and hope.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

In sessions, I use key SFBT techniques such as scaling questions, exception finding, and future-focused dialogue. Rather than focusing extensively on problems or diagnoses, I help clients envision their preferred future and identify small, achievable steps that move them in that direction. Together, we explore past successes, strengths, and times when the problem was less present—using those moments as building blocks for growth.
