I have been practicing as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia for the last 10 years. I obtained a Masters in Clinical Counseling from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. My expertise involves working with teenagers and adults , especially at risk youth. My mantra is to ''keep the hope alive'' by encouraging young people to explore meaning in their lives. I have also worked with the immigrant population in addressing issues of adjustment , assimilation and conflict.
First session will most certainly be about building rapport and trust. This would be followed by an exploration of the presenting problem. Subsequent sessions will consist of creating goal oriented treatment plan to address the presenting problem.
I bring empathy ,active listening skills and a solution directed approach to healing.
I take great pleasure in working with teenagers and adults.
I have used CBT in treatment for at least five years now. After initial rapport is developed and a presenting problem identified, subsequent sessions involve challenging irrational thoughts. Reframing irrational thoughts is an important feature allowing for goal setting and skill building.
